What is an MRI?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the organs and tissues within the body.
Before the Scan
Most MRI exams require no special preparation. However, because the MRI machine uses a strong magnet, you should:
- Remove all metal objects (jewelry, watches, hairpins).
- Inform the technician if you have any metal implants (pacemakers, artificial joints).
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.
During the Scan
The machine can be noisy, so you may be given earplugs. You must lie very still to ensure clear images.
